Six cylinder engine, 150 BHP and nearly 200 km/h max speed at the end of the sixties. The description sounds similar to one of the sports cars of those days. But actually it is Opel “Commodore” that nowadays has become a rare and desirable automobile.
The first generation Opel “Commodore” was manufactured from 1967 to 1971 as successor of the massively successful “Rekord” model. More than 150000 cars rolled of a conveyor. But up until this day, less than 50 known cars of “Commodore” Mk1 have remained. DBC body repair masters will have the honour to repaint car in it’s former glory!
Opel didn’t quite have the reputation of building cars that were really quick, or exciting by any means. But “Commodore” showed that they can do it. Market research suggested that competitors had higher sales numbers due to their success in motorsports. “Commodore GS/E” specification was quite competitive in touring car series.
The first generation “Commodore” was equipped with 2,2L, 2,5L or 2,8L six cylinder engines. But the most popular and most respected amongst car enthusiasts was the 1970 “Commodore GS/E” with with Bosch D-jetronic fuel injection system developing 150 BHP, 10 more than Porsche “911”. With relatively low 1250 kg curb weight it was very dynamic automobile.

On the 4th of March, in warm spring weather annual Women’s Day Rally took place where elegant ladies from DBC Autocentrs were among the participants.
During the Women’s Day Rally, our ladies had to pass many tests, which affected their result at the end of the competition. At the start line in Jēkabpils the ladies were greeted by the Latvian rallycross master Reinis Nitišs. This year, the final destination of the competition traditionally was in Rīga and, as usual, the event concluded in the evening at the Fashion and Entertainment Centre Rīga Plaza.
DBC Autocentrs ladies—Zaiga Sviķe, Dace Rozenštama, Linda Jansone and Justīne Taškāne—wearing company colours performed the tests arranged by the organisers in a small and agile Ford Fiesta.
According to the organisers, 723 crews participated in the ninth Women’s Day Rally, which is 21 teams more than the year before. On the eastern route, luck smiled on the ladies from the Cesvaine Brewery team, but on the western route, Rally Bunnies got the win.
The all-Latvian Shadow Day revealed a great interest to the DBC Autocentrs vacancy for the Head of Body Repair Centre. Out of all applicants, five lucky ones were selected and they learned about the duties and responsibilities of Raimonds Freimanis.
High and secondary school pupils came from Garkalne Secondary school, Rīga State German Gymnasium, Ķekava Secondary School, Jaunmārupe Primary school and Rīga Secondary School No. 64.
“My shadows were most excited about choosing the right colour for the vehicle and its parts. Step by step we went through the painting process talking through the details of each stage”, said Head of Body Repair Centre Raimonds Freimanis. “I am happy that the kids were involved in the tasks assigned to them and were eager to learn about backstage of the trade. It does not happen often. I also enjoyed a slightly different day together with the young rookies!”
Young shadows admitted that their day at DBC Autocentrs raced by very quickly and was very valuable, as they learned many new things about car repair which they had only seen in the books or online videos before.

DBC Autocentrs and Kurbads superheroes have taken a break from their everyday duties of saving the world from evil to gather at our New Year ball and honour our employees of the year.
Annual ball is a significant event where all the company’s superheroes and their other halves can come together to share their emotions and take a break in a friendly and joyful atmosphere.
Good fun, hugs, smiles and speeches of gratitude accompany our traditional honouring of the best employees of the year. Led by Ģirts Ķesteris, Ninja Turtles, Batmen, Supermen, Jedi masters and countless other superheroes celebrated the real heroes of the company who, greeted with ovation, received Arvīds Endziņš’s handcrafted creations for their achievements.
Unchanging as the sunset in the west and Batman’s victory over the gangsters, the most prestigious title of the annual ball is the title of the best employee of DBC Autocentrs. This year the situation was especially intriguing, as thanks to high scores any of the nominees could get the title. The big prize went to the Commercial Vehicle Repair Manager Dzintars Balodis who had demonstrated great progress and made the new job his own.
After the best employees had been awarded, our superheroes took to the dancefloor to the rocky rhythms of Dziļi Violets band and captured themselves for eternity with friends and colleagues or tested their skill in various puzzles.

Thursday was a special day for DBC Autocentrs Commercial vehicle repair team, as Sports Centre 333 organised all kinds of activities and we had an opportunity to get to know our colleagues better outside work.
Led by the experienced development coach Andžejs Reiters the team was divided into two groups. In the quiet of the forest, individual, pair and groups exercises requiring maximum mutual trust from the colleagues were performed. Despite wintery weather, everyone was motivated to get involved and enjoy the day outside of our usual environment.
Roaring motors are an integral part of the 333 track as well as an everyday thing for the service team. DBC Autocentrs team boarded go-carts to fight for the fastest lap on the treacherous asphalt track. Oskars Stranga was ahead of everyone by almost two hundreds of a second.
After a lot of fun and good time, DBC commercial vehicle repair team is ready for new challenges!
On Saturday, at Biķernieki racetrack, Triobet Latvian drift season closing took place, in which for the first time the DBC-supported drifter Raivis Graudiņš took his place on the grid in a new sports car.
85 racers in three categories meant that the drivers would have to show all they have to step on the podium. Raivis Graudiņš took his 650 hp BMW E46 to the track in the most prestigious PRO category where local contenders were challenged by drivers from Estonia and Lithuania.
The pearl DBC Autocentrs vehicle was even more powerful on the morning of the race, which was a great surprise for the driver. This time, low temperature, slippery turns of the Biķernieki track and untamed power did not allow to qualify for the final race of the competition. But keep your eyes peeled for the custom painted DBC Autocentrs BMW next season!
On 21 June, DBC and Kurbads teams with their families got together dressed in traditional clothes to celebrate summer solstice in the Latvian tradition.
Summer solstice celebration has been a tradition in our company for twenty years and is a great way to boost team morale. This time folklore music, dancing and entertainment were provided by Trejdeviņi band gathering everybody in a lively Līgo dance.
However, the most anticipated event is the annual award of the Līgo party for the best traditional dress and costume, which our girls and boys choose for the celebration and prepare well in advance. Last year’s winners Agnese and Renārs decided that this year Estere and Dāvis deserved the prize. Special treats were awarded to two Jānises working in the company, but the special prize for the most beautiful and energetic dance went to Kristīne and Andis.
Solstice celebration participants could also try their hand at archery and have their picture in their traditional costumes taken together with their family and colleagues.
We would like to thank Edgars Lipors’s Trejdeviņi band for the great Līgo atmosphere, merry dancing and warm summer solstice together with our employees.
